Two years jail for IELTS fraud
THE former Curtin University admin worker who falsified International English Language Testing System results has been jailed for two years.
Keith Low, 32, was sentenced today in the District Court of Western Australia after pleading guilty to 15 counts of accepting bribes to help foreign students applying for Australian residency. He will be eligible for parole in 12 months.
The court heard he had received about $25,000 for changing the results of students who had failed the English language test. He had admitted taking $1500 a pop to change test results using the passwords of co-workers at Curtin English Language Centre.
Eight other people pleaded guilty to a total of over 40 bribery offences committed as part of the $100,000-plus scam, including intermediaries who took larger cuts than Mr Low. The others were former students.

Can I follow both visa 175 and visa 176 procedures in parallel
Hello,I would like to know if a person can start a procedure for visa 176 (nomination by a state) in case there is an ongoing visa 175 application. Any feedback is very welcome.
A few more words about this question ...
I got a positive ACS skills assessment and I also got good IELTS results. I can meet the points test requirements/threshold for visa 175 (Skilled - Independent) however I am not sure if I should start immediately application for 175 or seek nomination from QSL (we plan to move to Brisbane). If I get nominated I expect obtaining a visa would take a few months only but if I go the 175 route then it could take more than a year. I would like to minimize the waiting time and I am thinking of doing the following 1) apply for 175; 2) immediately after the 175 application apply for nomination by QSL; 3) in case I get nominated then "switch" my application from 175 to 176.
This way if I get nominated I don't lose time and at the same time if I don't get nominated then my 175 application is in the queue and I am not losing time.
Basically I save time in the scenario when I don't get nominated because I start both in parallel and I don't lose the response time for QSL nomination before starting 175.
Does this make sense? Will it save time? Is it possible to "switch" from 175 to 176?
Thank you!
