Fashion Videographer Now Producing 'Video Lookbooks Google logo A visit to St. Basil s and Red Squar

Traveling around the world is a dream that many share, and traveling to well known landmarks is an even bigger dream. One famous landmark that tops almost all the lists is St. Basils Cathedral in Moscow. Today the cathedral celebrates its 450th anniversary [in honor of the cathedral’s 450 years, google has created a doodle, below]

Although it’s known to everyone as St. Basil’s, this legendary building is officially called “The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin by the Moat”. The popular alternative refers to Basil the Blessed, a Muscovite ‘holy fool’ who was buried on the site (in the Trinity Cathedral that once stood here) a few years before the present building was erected.

The Cathedral was ordered by Ivan the Terrible to mark the 1552 capture of Kazan from Mongol forces. It was completed in 1560. That’s pretty much all the genuine history that’s known about this celebrated landmark. There, however, scores of legends. Nothing is known about the builders, Barma and Postnik Yakovlev, except their names and the dubious legend that Ivan had them blinded so that they could not create anything to compare. Historians unanimously state that this is nothing but urban folklore.

Architectural specialists are to this day unable to agree about the governing idea behind the structure. Either the creators were paying homage to the churches of Jerusalem, or, by building eight churches around a central ninth, they were representing the medieval symbol of the eight-pointed star. The original concept of the Cathedral of the Intercession has been hidden from us beneath layers of stylistic additions and new churches added to the main building. In fact, when built, the Cathedral was all white to match the white-stone Kremlin, and the onion domes were gold rather than multi-colored and patterned as they are today.

In the 17th century a hip-roofed bell tower was added, the gallery and staircases were covered with vaulted roofing, and the helmeted domes were replaced with decorated ones. In 1860 during rebuilding, the Cathedral was painted with a more complex and integrated design, and has remained unchanged since.

For a time in the Soviet Union, there was talk of demolishing St. Basil’s – mainly because it hindered Stalin’s plans for massed parades on Red Square. It was only saved thanks to the courage of the architect Pyotr Baranovsky. When ordered to prepare the building for demolition, he refused categorically, and sent the Kremlin an extremely blunt telegram. The Cathedral remained standing, and Baranovsky’s conservation efforts earned him five years in prison.

The Cathedral is now a museum. During restoration work in the seventies a wooden spiral staircase was discovered within one of the walls. Visitors now take this route into the central church, with its extraordinary, soaring tented roof and a fine 16th Century iconostasis. You can also walk along the narrow, winding gallery, covered in beautiful patterned paintwork. One service a year is held in the Cathedral, on the Day of Intercession in October.

Turner Classic Movies Race and Hollywood: Arab Images on Film LAWRENCE OF ARABIA YOUNG WINSTON THE FOUR FEATHERS on TCM

Turner Classic Movies' "Race and Hollywood: Arab Images on Film" continues this evening with four movies about European powers and their difficult relationship with "the Arab races": Lawrence of Arabia, Lion of the Desert, The Four Feathers, and Young Winston.

In David Lean's sprawling Lawrence of Arabia, Peter O'Toole is a much taller version of T. E. Lawrence, the Englishman who fought alongside Arabs at the time of World War I. Lawrence of Arabia won a total of seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director; it's also considered by many one of the greatest movies ever made.

Personally, I find Lawrence of Arabia great-looking but much too long: 227 minutes. Also, at times I couldn't quite figure out what Lean's and screenwriter Robert Bolt's political take was; I'm not sure if their vision is just too muddled and wishy-washy, or if it's oh-so-complex I need to revisit this film a third time.

Peter O'Toole is fine as Lean's version of T. E. Lawrence — one that Lawrence himself might not have recognized. But as far as I'm concerned, the film's best performance is that of Claude Rains, who steals the show in his few, quiet moments. As for David Lean, while watching Lawrence of Arabia I sorely missed the guy who had directed Brief Encounter, This Happy Breed, The Passionate Friends, and Hobson's Choice.

The Four Feathers is the British version of Hollywood's Gunga Din and Beau Geste; in other words, Europeans are good, whereas Arabs are, well, Arabs. Great color cinematography (Georges PĂ©rinal), though. And C. Aubrey Smith, too.

I haven't watched Lion of the Desert or Young Winston. The former stars Anthony Quinn, which makes me think it'll be something akin to "Zorba the Arab." But I could be wrong. The latter stars Simon Ward as the young Winston Churchill. Richard Attenborough directed, which makes me think it'll be something very stately and very old-school, along the lines of Gandhi and Shadowlands. But I could be wrong. Young Winston was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay.

UK Branch Network Faces Crunch Time National Australia Bank UK NAB Bid For Lloyds

A1

According to reports in the UK, Australian banking major National Australia Bank is resisting intense pressure to table a bit for 632 branches that have been put up for sale by Lloyds Banking Group.

Bidders for the Lloyds retail branch network were caught by surprise when it emerged that Lloyds chief executive Antonio Horta-Osario had set a snap deadline for an indicative bid for yesterday.

According to the Guardian, NAB is still a contender to buy the branch network, but has told Lloyds that it needs more time before submitting an opening bid. The Guardian reported that the timetable for the asset sale does allow for some flexibility.

NAB is widely seen as a strong contender to acquire the branch banking network that has been put up for sale by Lloyds as a result of EU competition rules following the lender having to bailed out by the British government with a $30 billion lifeline during the financial crisis.

NAB already operates two different brands in the UK, and well capitalized, has the necessary infrastructure, but only a 2 per cent market share. Thus the acquisition of the branch network makes strategic sense, since it would double market share over night and leave it with many more options.

Cameron Clyne, NAB’s chief executive declined to comment, and instead referred to a previous statement he made on its strategy for the UK.

“There is a lot of debate in the UK market at present about the future shape of the UK banking industry, with a common theme being that the UK market would benefit from more traditional banks and more competition,” Mr Clyne said at the time.

“This places our operations in a great position to capitalise on this sentiment. Our No 1 priority is and has always been to grow the business organically, but in this climate it is also only natural that we would look at other options available to us.”

Frucor Beverages today announced the appointment of Mark Callaghan as CEO New Zealand

Frucor Beverages today announced the appointment of Mark Callaghan as CEO New Zealand. The role was previously held by Carl Bergstrom, who was appointed as Frucor's Group Managing Director last month.

Mark comes to Frucor after an extensive career in FMCG, having worked for some of the world's leading FMCG organisations. His previous role was Melbourne-based Managing Director Australia & New Zealand for Cadbury, one of Australia and New Zealand's largest food companies and Australasia's largest confectionery company.

Throughout his career Mark has held a number of senior sales and marketing roles, including Brand Director - Confectionery for Cadbury Schweppes in the UK, where he was responsible for establishing teams to manage and grow some of Cadbury's most prominent global brands.

Mark is currently an independent non-executive Director for the Warehouse Group.

Managing Director Carl Bergstrom said he was delighted to have Mark join the business.

"Mark brings a wealth of relevant experience to the NZ CEO role, as well as strong existing relationships with the retail trade, both in New Zealand and Australia. I am confident he has the passion, energy and experience to drive Frucor's New Zealand business forward," he said.

Mark Callaghan said he was attracted to Frucor as a strong and successful values-based organisation.

"I am looking forward to being part of a very healthy business, with strong brands and lots of further potential for growth. I am keen to meet the challenge of taking on the competition to increase Frucor's strength in the New Zealand market," he said.

Mark takes up his new role on 1 August.

Ashwani Gujral , Chief Market Strategist, ashwanigujral.com , in a chat with ET Now, gives his views on various stocks.

Which sector or group of stocks to your mind could really lead the decline?

Financials have given that clear indication because they have broken down yesterday while Nifty will break down today. So, financials and global cyclicals would lead this decline along with metals and may be oil, so just try to keep away from these three sectors. FMCG is on the upside as it has already done its bit so it may not act as a big defensive but it will fall less than the rest. Pharma and FMCG types will keep you safe if the market heads lower.

Google Plus aims to be newest social media player Aussie Guy Fired For Using Gmail Chat Wins Unfair DismissalMagid: A look at new video chat services

Our take: So far, Google Plus looks like a mix of ideas borrowed from other sites with fairly tight integration with Google Chat (including video), Gmail, Buzz and Picasa. Missing so far: that kind of integration with Google Docs, Calendar or,

Over the past week, I’ve been spending an increasing amount of time with Google Plus. The service is the latest attempt by Google to battle Facebook and Twitter on the social networking front after two of its previous efforts, Google Wave (like a chat room on steroids) and Google Buzz (a Twitterlike way to share info) fizzled.

Google Plus, which started as a test among a selected group, has been opening and closing access to new users. You can check availability at google.com/plus.

What is it: Google Plus pulls together real-time status updates and photos from friends, and allows you to organize your Google contacts (say, those you gathered with Gmail) into neat, easy-to-view “Circles.” There’s also a neat feature called “Hangouts,” which allows for no-fuss video chatting with up to 10 people at a time. The feature is so intriguing that Dell Inc. founder and CEO Michael Dell recently stopped in on a Dell employee Hangout to check out the feature.

Will it replace Facebook and Twitter? Not yet. The service is still a little buggy, and it’s unclear so far how Plus will set itself apart from these more established social networks. But it’s definitely got everyone’s attention, including Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg, who, shortly after Plus debuted, became its most popular user.

Right now Plus feels a bit cobbled-together and not as intuitive to navigate as it could be. But Google is tweaking it daily and making constant improvements.

Our take: So far, Google Plus looks like a mix of ideas borrowed from other sites with fairly tight integration with Google Chat (including video), Gmail, Buzz and Picasa. Missing so far: that kind of integration with Google Docs, Calendar or, surprisingly, Google’s recent efforts to make search more social.Note to cyber slackers: cover your tracks. Last Cabinet reshuffle before 2014 polls Cabinet reshuffle Manmohan Singh Cabinet reshuffle a damp squib BJP 2011

New Delhi: It may not have been the exhaustive revamp that some were expecting, but the Prime Minister said he hopes that today's cabinet reshuffle "is the last before we go to the polls." If his coalition lasts its term, general elections will be held in 2014.

After the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan this evening, Dr Manmohan Singh told reporters that once again, Rahul Gandhi had been invited to join the government but that like in the past, the Congress General Secretary said he preferred to work for the party. The PM described his new cabinet as "a balance between state representation, efficiency of ministers and continuity." He also reached out to an important coalition partner - "We have kept two seats vacant for DMK, I hope their decision will be coming soon" Dr Singh said. (Read: Cabinet reshuffle not complete yet, stresses Karunanidhi)

The other headlines of the reshuffle - the second during UPA 2 - are that Jairam Ramesh has left the Environment Ministry, albeit with a promotion; and Veerappa Moily has been replaced as Law Minister by Salman Khursheed. (Read: PM's new team announced: Entire Cabinet List) | (PM's new team)

Jayanthi Natarajan, former Congress spokesperson, will now handle the high-profile Environment Ministry as a Minister of State with Independent Charge. (Read: Who is Jayanthi Natarajan?)

Mr Ramesh, credited with revving up the Environment Ministry and criticised often by his colleagues for often obstructing development, has been promoted to Cabinet rank with the critical Rural Development Ministry, which was headed so far by Vilas Rao Deshmukh. Rural Development is known to be very close to Rahul Gandhi's heart and Mr Ramesh's elevation is being viewed in his camp as a big promotion. Mr Ramesh will now supervise some of the government's flagship schemes like NREGA or the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Sources say that Mr Ramesh has been asked to bring his signature energy and dynamism to the ministry. The move also allows the Prime Minister to reward a performing minister while removing him from a position where he was seen by some as a roadblock. . (Read: Who is Jairam Ramesh?)

The Rahul Gandhi connection is also visible in another appointment. One of his closest aides, Congress secretary Jitendra Singh has been inducted as a Minister of State for Home. Mr Singh is a first-time MP from Rajasthan and his bright, traditional turban added a splash of colour at Rashtrapati Bhawan this evening.

The Big 4 ministries - Finance, Defence, Home and External Affairs - remain unchanged.

Mr Moily, who will move to Corporate Affairs, exits the Law Ministry at a time when the government has been reprimanded in a glut of cases by the Supreme Court. Ranging from the telecom scam to the attempts to recover black money, the government has been accused of willful mismanagement and inertia. In the telecom scam, the Prime Minister's Office was asked to explain alleged inaction. The resignation of the Solicitor General over the weekend served, sources say, as the proverbial final straw. "I believe it's a great honour. It's a very very tough job ," said Mr Khurshid of his new assignment as Law Minister. "We are determined that we have three years in which we have to show outstanding performance."

As anticipated, no replacements have been announced for the vacancies created by Dayanidhi Maran and A Raja, both from the DMK, who have resigned over corruption charges. In Chennai, DMK chief M Karunanidhi said "the reshuffle is not complete" - an indication that he reserves the right to exercise his party's quota after a meeting of its general council later this month in Coimbatore. At that session, the DMK will decide whether it wants to participate in the UPA government or support it from outside. For now, Mr Karunanidhi's focus, say sources, is on trying to help his daughter who is in jail for her alleged role in the telecom scam that centred around Mr Raja.

Rail and more for Trinamool

Dinesh Trivedi of the Trinamool Congress has been given the Railways Ministry - a Cabinet rank post vacated by his party chief Mamata Banerjee after she was elected West Bengal Chief Minister. (Read: Who is Dinesh Trivedi?) The weekend saw two massive train accidents in UP and Guwahati and national anger over what's perceived as a leadership crisis in the ministry, and a lack of focus on passenger safety. Mr Trivedi's party colleague Sudip Bandopadhyay replaces him as Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. Trinamool watchers are surprised at close Mamata confidante Mukul Roy being ignored. Mr Roy, who was Minister of State for Shipping, with additional charge of Railways in the 50-odd days since Mamata quit, has gone back to holding only his Shipping portfolio. He came in for much criticism after the weekend rail accidents. (Read: Trinamool's Mukul Roy loses Railways)

Beni Prasad Verma, a heavyweight leader from UP, has been elevated to Cabinet rank from Minister with Independent Charge. His ministry remains the same - Steel. Andhra Pradesh leader V Kishore Chandra Deo has been made Cabinet Minister for Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj, an important assignment in a Congress government. His appointment comes at a time that the Congress needs to consolidate in Andhra Pradesh, confronting as it is a new crisis with many of its leaders resigning over the demand for a new Telangana state. (Read: Who is V Kishore Chandra Deo?)

Milind Deora, a young MP from Mumbai, has been made Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology. His father, Murli Deora, resigned last week as Minister of Corporate Affairs. Today, he has been replaced by Mr Moily. (Read: Who is Milind Deora?)

Rajiv Shukla, as well known in the world of cricket as he is in politics, is now Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.

Mr Deshmukh, who has been replaced as Rural Development Minister by Mr Ramesh, will now handle Science and Technology.

Five ministers sacked

Five ministers have been sacked, including MS Gill who was in charge of Sports and looked on a sticky wicket ever since the CWG controversies happened. The others are BK Handique, veteran Assam leader, Kantilal Bhuria, who loses the Tribal Affairs Ministry, Arun S Yadav from Madhya Pradesh who was the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries and Sai Prathap Annayyagari, who was Minister of State, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, an Andhra man known to be close to Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In replacing them, the PM has kept regional expectations in mind. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, victorious in the recently held Assembly elections, had recently said he would like more ministers from Assam. Mr Handique has been dropped but Congress MP from Dibrugarh, PS Ghatowar, will now be Minister of State with Independent Charge of Development of the North Eastern Region.

In other minor changes, Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma will hold additional charge of Textiles; Parliamentary Affairs Minister PK Bansal will have additional charge of Water Resources and the new Law Minister, Salman Khursheed, will also be in charge of Minority Affairs.

Taj Mahal Tour Get a Great Experience of Dream in Marble

The Taj Mahal, standing on the right bank of Yamuna, about 1.1/2 regarded as one of the wonders of the Fort, rightly synonymous not only with Agra but India. If Fatehpur Sikari is a song written in red sandstone, Taj Mahal is poem composed in white marble, which can be visited with Taj Mahal tour. This wonderful mausoleum was erected by that “most magnificent of all the royal builders of India,” shah Jahan, to perpetuate the memory of his most beloved wife, the empress Arjumand Bano Begum. Born in 1592, she was the daughter of the Mirza Ghiyas Baig or Itmad-ud-daulah and the niece of the age of nineteen she was married to prince Khurram-afterwards the Emperor shah Jahan, when Jahanghir confirmed upon her the title of Mumtaz Mahal or “ Exalted of the Palace”.

It is worthwhile to note that shah Jahan, through hardly twenty-one had another wife named Khandari Begum. Mumtaz Mahal was to shah Jahan in a manner what her aunt Nur Jahan had been to Jahanghir. She was in no way inferior to Nur Jahan in mental gifts or personal beauty, - for which she was far-famed. With the help of Taj Mahal tour, tourists can know about its history also. Mumtaz Mahal was consulted in all important affairs of state and was the keeper of the Royal Seal, a symbol of great royal trust. She remained with her consort like his shadow and shared the vicissitudes of her husband’s life without a murmur.

Taj Mahal Tour: Get a Great Experience of Dream in Marble

She was with him in the most trying and dangerous monuments of their married life. When shah Jahan was camping at Burhanpur to crush the rebel khan-jahan Lodi Mumtaz was delivered of her fourteenth child and died on Wednesday 17th Ziqad A.H 1040 (A.D. 1630). Deeply grieved and shocked, shah Jahan, for two years remained aloof from tasteful dishes, gorgeous robes, music and merriment. In this way, the idea of Taj took roots and so rightly it is designed as monument of grief, which can be explored with Taj Mahal tour.

To immortalize his passionate devotion to his consort and to build over grave a mausoleum of matchless beauty, shah Jahan summoned from his own territories, as well as from foreign countries, such as Persia, Arabia and Turkey, the expert architects, engineers, master masons, calligraphers, specialist dome-masters, flower-carvers, inlayers etc. now what you are waiting for just book Taj Mahal tour and get a great experience of trip to India in a great manner.

Announces Results for the Quarter Ended Sensex sinks on weak IIP growth and Euro debt crisisInfosys results miss esti June30 2011 Infosys Result

Software major Infosys is expected to come out with its Q1FY12 numbers on Tuesday . The results, which come amidst economic uncertainties in Europe and margin pressures back home, will set the tone for the overall IT sector performance this quarter
It is a day with being called as the day of three I's —the Infosys results, the IIP shock and Italy worried to deal with. While Infosys results and expectations lived up to the tradition of providing conservative guidelines, the market now seems
Selling pressure triggerd across the sectors as the domestic market was disappointed on weak Infosys results and sluggish May industrial output. Global cues too was dampener as heavy sell off was seen in early trade of European markets

The benchmark indices continued to be weak in the afternoon trade. Selling pressure triggerd across the sectors as the domestic market was disappointed on weak Infosys results and sluggish May industrial output. Global cues too was dampener as heavy sell off was seen in early trade of European markets.

The BSE IT index has underperformed all other sectoral indices; it was down over 3% on the back of below expectation Infosys Q1 results. The BSE realty, auto, capital goods, metal and bankex were down 1-2%.

Bangalore-based Infosys, the first to kick off results for India's nearly $60 billion IT sector, also forecast tepid sales growth for the year ending March 2012.

"Infosys has a history of generally beating market expectations. So, the street is disappointed," said Gajendra Nagpal, CEO of Unicon Financial in New Delhi. "Also, the market may now bring down its expectations from the entire IT pack."

Infosys, founded in 1981 by seven engineers with $250 borrowed from their spouses, reported a net profit of 18.2 billion rupees ($408.5 million) versus 16 billion rupees a year ago.

This compares with a Reuters poll forecast for net profit of 18.81 billion rupees for Infosys , whose clients include Goldman Sachs , BT Group and BP .

Indian technology firms have seen a shake-up in recent months. In January, smaller rival Wipro replaced the chiefs of its key outsourcing business after struggling to keep up with peers. [ID:nSGE70J055]

Infosys, which boasts higher profit margins versus local and global peers, said its margins could decline this year, mainly due to a volatile local currency.

"Currency volatility continued to be a challenge," chief financial officer V. Balakrishnan told reporters in Bangalore.

Infosys, larger rival Tata Consultancy Services , and No. 3 Wipro have all stepped up hiring in the past few months, reflecting strong demand from clients.

However, a possible appreciation of the rupee and pay increases for employees as they battle the likes of IBM and Accenture for orders and staff, will be key concerns for export-oriented firms.

"There is pressure on margins. That is a combination of both cost pressures and the rupee. Even the outlook is below market expectation," said Nitin Jain, Singapore principal investment manager at Kotak Mahindra's fund management unit.

Meanwhile on the global front, European markets tumbled over 2% in the opening trade due to rising concerns of Italy debt crisis. Italy debt-to-GDP ratio of 120%, which is second only to Greece within the EU and Italy faces 175 billion euros in debt maturities this year and has 1.6 trillion euros of bonds outstanding, the world’s third-largest debt pile after the US and Japan.

Infosys informed the market of its Quarter Ended June 30, 2011 Results . Revenues.  Revenues were `7485 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2011;QoQ growth was 3.2%; YoY growth was 20.8%  Net profit after tax was `1722 crore for

Timetable 2011

Hostory & Heritage :

Vidyasagar University, named after one of the most illustrious sons of Bengal as well as one of the doyens of Indian Renaissance, Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, has grown out of a long cultural and educational movement in West Bengal in general and in the undivided district of Midnapore in particular. The idea of founding a University in the district was mooted by the various organizations, notably by the Regional Education Association, Midnapore, headed by Professor A.K.Gayen of IIT, Kharagpur. The Ghani Committee appointed by the U.G.C. also suggested, among others, for the setting up of a University in Midnapore on the ground of its ‘having a compact area and a manageable number of colleges’ (at that time there were 36 colleges with an enrolment of about 42,000), and also of its ‘having the great advantage of co-operation of the IIT, Kharagpur. The Committee was also of the opinion that the new University would develop on the lines suited to the needs of this backward area.

To give honour and respect to these pious intentions and proposals, the Government of West Bengal decided in 1978 to establish Vidyasagar University. The U.G.C. approved the proposal and on the advice of, and in consultation with the U.G.C., the State Government appointed a Planning Committee in March 1979 to lay down the lines of development and to take initial steps to found the University. The Committee submitted its report in October. Then the Vidyasagar University Act, 1981 (West Bengal Act XVIII of 1981) was passed; some of its sections were brought into operation on 24th June 1981. Finally, Professor Bhupesh Chandra Mukherjee joined as the first Vice Chancellor of the University on 29th September 1981.

Academic activities started when through a Notification [no. 983-Edn (U), dated Calcutta the 23rd May] issued by the State Government, 30 colleges of the District of Midnapore were affiliated to the Vidyasagar University with effect from 1st June 1985.The foundation stone of the main campus at Tantigaria mouza of Midnapore Sadar Town for post graduate teaching and central administration of the University, was laid on 18th July 1983 by the then Hon’ble Chancellor of the University and Governor of West Bengal, Late B.D.Pande. On 15th January 1986, it was inaugurated by Shri Jyoti Basu, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal. From the next day (16th January) classes commenced in six post graduate departments: Anthropology, Applied Mathematics with Oceanology and Computer Programming, Commerce with Farm Management, Economics with Rural Development, Library and Information Science, Political Science with Rural Administration.

The U.G.C. accorded recognition to the University in terms of Section 12B of the U.G.C. Act, on 1st March 1990.The University presently houses 27 PG departments (apart from this course – MBA - being run under the Department of Commerce with Farm Management), 12 in Humanities and 15 in Science while 46 undergraduate colleges apart from 11 courses in yet 11 other colleges / institutes are affiliated to it. Fourteen vocational subjects and six other specialized courses are also offered at the UG level. The overall emphasis of the university is not to perpetuate the traditional nature of the other universities of West Bengal but to merge as a distinctive entity with a special nature of its own. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded Vidyasagar University with a 3-star status. The campus has a picturesque background within which afforestation programmes are being undertaken.

The Vidyasagar University thus began its journey to sail through many trials and tribulations.
