www.aiims.edu AIIMS reinstates 'controversial' doc AIIMS resident docs on All India Institute of Medical Sciences AIIMS MBBS ENTRANCE EXAMINATION 2011

Finally doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have got what they wanted; for one of their resident doctors Dr Shejoy P Joshua to join back.

More than 100 residents were protesting since Monday in order to get their colleague reinstated, who was charged and then exonerated of sexually abusing a seven-year-old boy who came to him for treatment.

The order was issued by the institute last evening. The decision came after a meeting with union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

"We are so happy that Shejoy is back. We hereby now call off our hunger strike as we have won. It's really a great moment for all of us," said Dr Debjyoti Karmakar, president, Resident Doctors Association (RDA), AIIMS.

Dr Shejoy P Joshua, a senior resident of the AIIMS neurosurgery department, faced allegations of molesting the, child who had undergone surgery in the institute for brain tumour. After the decision, he told MiD DAY he was extremely happy and emotional too.

"I can't believe this. For the last six months, I have been fighting to prove myself innocent, and finally I have proved it to all of them. I don't have words to describe this; it's been a tough journey. But, with the support of all the doctors, I will be joining the institute from tomorrow with pride," said Dr Shejoy.

Creating a country imbued with a scientific culture was Jawaharlal Nehru's dream, and immediately after independence he prepared a grand design to achieve it. Among the temples of modern India which he designed, was a centre of excellence in the medical sciences. Nehru's dream was that such a centre would set the pace for medical education and research in Southeast Asia , and in this he had the wholehearted support of his Health Minister, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur.

The health survey and development committee ,chaired by Sir Joseph Bhore, an Indian Civil Servant ,had in 1946 already recommended the establishment of a national medical centre which would concentrate on meeting the need for highly qualified manpower to look after the nation's expanding health care activities . The dreams of Nehru and Amrit Kaur and the recommendations of the Bhore Committee converged to create a proposal which found favor with the government of New Zealand. A generous grant from New Zealand under the Colombo Plan made it possible to lay the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1952.The AIIMS was finally created in 1956,as an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament ,to serve as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspect of health care.

All-India Institute of Medical Sciences was established as an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament with the objects to develop patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India; to bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity; and to attain self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education.

The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. As provided in the Act, AIIMS conducts teaching programs in medical and para-medical courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and awards its own degrees. Teaching and research are conducted in 42 disciplines. In the field of medical research AIIMS is the lead, having more than 600 research publications by its faculty and researchers in a year. AIIMS also runs a College of Nursing and trains students for B.Sc.(Hons.) Nursing post-certificate) degrees.

Twenty-five clinical departments including four super specialty centers manage practically all types of disease conditions with support from pre- and Para-clinical departments. However, burn cases, dog-bite cases and patients suffering from infectious diseases are not entertained in the AIIMS Hospital. AIIMS also manages a 60-beded hospital in the Comprehensive Rural Health Centre at Ballabgarh in Haryana and provides health cover to about 2.5 lakh population through the Centre for Community Medicine.

Objectives of AIIMS

• To develop a pattern of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches so as to demonstrate high standard of medical education to all medical colleges and other allied institutions in India.

• To bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of the personnel in all important branches of the health activity.

• to attain self sufficiency in postgraduate in medical education.

Living up to its reputation as ISRO’s versatile workhorse, India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) on Friday completed its 18th successful mission in a row with the launch of communication satellite GSAT-12 from here.

It was a special mission for ISRO as the agency used the most powerful ‘XL’ configuration for today’s launch - similar to the one used for the successful Chandrayaan-I, India’s moon mission in 2008.

Replicating its uninterrupted success, the PSLV has yet again demonstrated India’s capabilities in the multi-billion dollar global commercial launch market.

This is for the second time that PSLV has been used for launching a communication satellite after Kalpana-1 in 2002.

Barring the lone failure of PSLV-D1, the first developmental flight, on September 20, 1993 the succeeding 18 flights have proved successful.

Since 1994, the PSLV, designed and developed by ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, has launched a total of 45 satellites, including 25 foreign spacecrafts.

The ‘XL’ version used six extended solid strap on motors with each strap-on carrying 12 tonnes of solid propellant as against nine tonnes in the standard version.

With its variant configurations, PSLV has proved its multi-payload, multi-mission capability in a single launch and its geosynchronous launch capability.

India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) completed its 18th successful mission in a row with the launch of communication satellite GSAT-12 today. New Ford Fiesta sedan all set to hit India Indian roads tomorrow New Ford Fiesta launched priced up to Rs 10.51 lakh

Ford India on Thursday placed a new kid in the sedan block in the form of the all new Fiesta. The car was unveiled earlier to th e press and public at a Ford cafe in Delhi aimed at bringing the car closer to the buyers.

The car will be available in both diesel and petrol options at a price range of Rs 8.31 lakh to Rs 10.51 lakh (ex -showroom Mumbai).

The car will be produced at the Chennai facility of the company's Indian arm thus making it the sixth location globally to produce the sedan.

"Ford is not backing away from its commitment to the Indian market. We are here for the long haul and launch this vehicle and reiterate our 'One Ford' vision by bringing the first of the eight new global vehicles to be launched here by 2015," Ford India President and MD Michael Boneham said.
Boneham said the company is upbeat about good sales prospects following the success of the hatchback Figo, which has received good response from the market.

"This month we will be assessing the response. I think the way we have priced the Fiesta, it will be very attractive to our customers," he said when asked about sales target. "Given the global response to the car, we will be capacity constrained," he added.

While the priority would be the Indian market, the new Fiesta would also be exported to other similar markets as is done with the Figo, he added.

The sedan is already glowing red hot with action presently and the new Fiesta is set to make things even more interesting. Check out what arsenal the Fiesta packs to wage war against the likes of Vento, new Verna, SX4 and Honda City.

The sedan is essentially the stylish little Fiesta hatch with a boot. While the front of the car looks absolutely stunning the rear might not find favour with all eyes as it feels more like an add-on. The flared wheel arches and inclined body line lend a muscular feel to the overall stance.

Ford India will offer a TiVCT petrol as well as the much popular and needed TDCI diesel powerplant for the new Fiesta. The petrol mill is good for a decent 109 bhp and 140 Nm of torque while the diesel mill generates an acceptable 90 bhp and an impressive 204 Nm of torque.

Fuel efficiency for the petrol and diesel mills is rated at 17 and xx 23.5 kmpl respectively.

Step inside and the first thing to grab one's attention is the center console resembling a mobile phone's keypad. The dials along with the center console lend a funky and smart look to the cockpit, something which will be loved by youngsters and also be accepted by their parents.

The controls are laid out nicely and the front seats offer good support. The rear legroom is not class-leading but will prove to be just adequate for the average Indian height.

The new Fiesta hosts quite a few segment first features along with the conventional ones. A notable one amongst all is the voice activated controls, which for example allows one to use the AC using voice commands.

Two of Ford Motor Company’s best selling cars are the 2011 Ford Fiesta Hatchback and the new 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback. About 50% of Ford Fiestas being sold are hatchback models and after being on the market just a few months, 41% of the new Focus sales are the hatchback model. Ford expects these numbers to continue to rise and believes the hatchbacks rise in popularity in the U.S. could be a signal of lasting market acceptance.

As consumers look for more versatile vehicles with more fuel economy, they are finding that the five-door hatchback fits their needs. The Fiesta and the Focus have more cargo space and both offer up to 40 mpg. Ford is the only full-line vehicle manufacturer offering both sedan and hatchback versions of its small B-and C-car selection in the U.S. and according to Ward’s Auto World data the total number of hatchbacks available in the U.S. market between the 2006 and 2010 model years has increased by 63%.

“American car buyers have become appreciative of the convenience and flexibility that hatchback body styles offer after years of owning SUVs and crossovers,” said George Pipas, Ford sales analyst. “Combined with the generation of younger drivers who have been exposed to popular high-performance hatchback offerings in Europe and Asia, we may be seeing the beginning of a shift in buyer acceptance of hatchbacks.

With extraordinary fuel economy, distinct design and great dynamics, the all-new 2012 Ford Focus is redefining the category of small cars. Focus sales were up 41% from last June, making it Fords best-selling car of the month.

The 2011 Fiesta has a global track record defining the expectations of small cars for consumers. It is vibrant, expressive and offers 15 class-exclusive technologies and features. Combined sales for the Fiesta and Focus in June were 26,920, up 66 percent from June 2010.
