Baroda - Manipal School of Banking has been set up jointly by Bank of Baroda and Manipal group. The school has been set up to attract bright young graduates to a career in Banking with Bank of Baroda where they are first trained in Banking and Finance before their embarking on the Banking career. The students go through a one –year full-time residential training programme which is conducted at the Baroda Manipal school of Banking campus at Bangalore. Those who successfully complete this one year intensive programme are awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Banking and are absorbed as Probationary officers in the Bank in JMG/S-I.

The students are selected through a rigorous selection process and given a systematic training in various areas of Banking and management disciplines in order to make them ready Bankers by the time they finish the programme.

The thrust of the training is to impart functional knowledge on general management and specialized knowledge on Banking related topics and subjects. Participants are put through a rigorous on-campus curriculum spread over 9 months and 3 trimesters which emphasizes on application of knowledge and overall development of personality. Training at the school will be supplemented with practical training in Various Branches of Bank of Baroda through a focused 3-month internship period.

Salient features of this one-year programme are as under:

1. The programme has blended curriculum with classroom, e-learning and internship.
2. It imparts knowledge and skills in core banking, specialized areas in Banking besides managerial skills, etiquette, grooming and language skills.
3. The classroom sessions (9 months, trimester pattern) is conducted at the Baroda Manipal school of Banking and internship (3 months ) at any Bank of Baroda branch or office (within India).
4. The students are paid a stipend amount every month for the entire 12 month duration of the programme in order to meet their out of pocket expenses and their living expenses.
5. The students will get assured employment with Bank of Baroda on successful completion of the programme.
6. Bank of Baroda provides full financing of the programme fees on very concessional terms to all students.
7. The entire fees as well as an additional amount covering the total loan amount as well as interest thereon reimbursed by the Bank progressively after completion of certain number of years with the Bank as “loyalty bonus”.
8. Applicants joining the one year programme leading to grant of a post-graduate diploma in Banking and Finance have the option of being enrolled for a UGC approved MBA in Banking and Finance through Manipal University which can be completed by candidates in 18 months time in distance education / online instruction mode.

Approaching a world of seven billion people world population will reach 7 billion, according to the United Nations Population Division

On 31 October 2011, world population will reach 7 billion, according to the United Nations Population Division. This global milestone presents a challenge, an opportunity, and a call to action. Whether we can live together on a healthy planet will depend on the choices that we make now. Therefore, on Monday 11th July, World Population Day, UNFPA is launching a global campaign called 7 Billion Actions to create a more just and sustainable world.

Currently about 78 million people are added to global population each year, increasing demand for natural resources and putting increased pressure on our planet. While poverty, inequality and increased stress on resources represent major challenges, the world is more interconnected than ever before, creating enormous possibilities. We now have new and unprecedented capacity to share information and ideas, and engage communities across the globe to solve problems that affect us.

Reducing inequities and improving living standards for people alive today – as well as for generations to follow – will require new ways of thinking and unprecedented global cooperation. The moment to act is now.

These are problems that can, and must, be solved. Together, we can forge the future with young people, advance rights for girls and women, and safeguard the natural resources on which we all depend.

The world’s 1.8 billion young people, between 10 and 24 years old, can contribute new ideas and approaches to solving our most pressing problems. Especially important are the 600 million adolescent girls, whose decisions can change our world. If every girl today could stay in school, have the number of children she desires, and live free from gender-based violence and discrimination, we would see an end to child marriage, improved health for children and families, and women taking their rightful place in society.

The international community agrees on the importance of girls’ and women’s rights. In 1994, 179 governments came together in Cairo for the historic International Conference on Population and Development. They agreed that the empowerment of girls and women is an important step towards eradicating poverty and stabilizing population growth. Reproductive health and rights – including the right to freely and responsibly determine the number, spacing and timing of children without coercion, discrimination and violence – are cornerstones of women’s empowerment and sustainable development.

Unfortunately, while the right to sexual and reproductive health has been proclaimed, it is far from being universally respected. There are still an estimated 215 million women in less developed countries who want to avoid or delay pregnancy, but lack access to modern contraception. Every day, 1,000 women die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. These deaths can be prevented. When women and couples are provided with adequate reproductive health information and services, including family planning, we can ensure that every child is wanted and every birth is safe. And we can reduce poverty.

According to the median projection of the UN Population Division, world population will reach 8 billion by 2025, 9 billion by 2043, and then 10 billion by 2083. But these projections are contingent on access to family planning and the rights of women, men and young people to make their own choices about childbearing.

As the most interconnected population, adolescents and youth are already transforming society, politics and culture. By more actively engaging women and young people, we can build a better future for all generations. As we approach a world population of 7 billion, each one of us is an equal part of this major milestone. Our small individual actions, multiplied across the world, can lead to change that is exponential.
